Hi, my name is Nayib Pastrana. I am an artist and designer from Houston, Texas, who graduated from The Art Institute of Houston with a degree in graphic design. My passion for design and art started with my family, particularly with my two eldest brothers and father. I admired the way the men of my family were passionate about drawing on whatever surface they could take advantage of. When I began my own artistic journey, I first started by copying logos just to see if I could recreate the professional product without the professional equipment, as I lacked any financial means as a first-generation kid living under the poverty line. Despite sharing a family computer and having to wait until Christmas every year for new art supplies, I knew I wanted to enter the creative industry.
In college, I felt my creativity overflow as I engaged in numerous opportunities to broaden my skill set, learn more about myself, and decide what it means for me to be an artist. I always deeply admired graphic design that seemed effortless–as if everything came together on the page for a reason. I feel like graphic design is like a puzzle, and the designer's job is to solve the puzzle that allows the viewer to understand the message and feeling behind the graphic. With this in mind, I aim to make my designs balanced, cohesive and engaging to the viewer.
